Dylan Knichel considers Germany's vegan-friendly menus as a means of producing food in a more sustainable manner.

When someone thinks of sustainability, almost always their minds jump to recycling and fossil fuel emissions, but what is often overlooked is our food and the way we produce and consume it. After speaking with Gabriel, it was very clear that this is arguably one of the most important factors when thinking about sustainability as a whole. This is an idea that Germany really embodies is their day to day lives through veganism and even just consuming less meat or finding comparable alternatives. This is a concept that has is starting to make its way into the states but at the same time very far behind. When it comes to sustainability, it is all about the lifestyle that we live as a society. As an American, I can say that our priorities are vastly different than those in Germany. Being sustainable in Germany is a way of life to them, whereas in America, it is a concept that we like the idea of, but the majority are not willing to make the changes needed to make a difference.
