Stephanie Hirzel considers using reusable bags instead of receiving plastic bags when shopping in Germany.

I always used plastic or paper bags at stores when I was at home. I never thought twice to bring my own bag because I figured, what's the point? On our first day in Munich, Germany, I discovered the importance of bringing your own bag. I felt embarrassed as I walked back to the hostel with my groceries in my hands. A significant amount of waste on our planet is generated by plastic bags, which people either throw away or keep because they "might need them." The ground, ocean, and landfills are littered with these non-biodegradable bags that will remain on this beautiful planet for eternity.
I bought a reusable bag in Germany for only €2. I used this bag several times per day while there and will continue to use it in to America. I discovered that this minor thing I am doing has a positive impact on the environment while also convincing myself. I made a promise to myself that I would only use reusable bags from now on, and I intend to keep that promise for the rest of my life.
