Having the opportunity to walk alongside history at the East Side Gallery of the Berlin Wall was a highlight of our abroad experience. In the 1980’s, artists from around the world painted these beautiful murals as a way to politically protest the Cold War in Europe. These murals explore humanitarian issues within Germany’s history through art and stand as a symbol of hope for the German people.

We found the murals about saving the environment to be the most impactful. We believe everyone has a carbon handprint and a responsibility to create positive change for the world in which we all call home. We have learned throughout our project that Germany is extremely sustainable and taking the necessary steps towards a better future. It is incredible how a mural painted so long ago still applies to every part of the world today. The beauty and history of this country has not failed to amaze us. 🇩🇪
